Covering SO14, SO15, SO16, SO17, SO18, SO19& surrounding postcodes

Local to you, across Southampton and the surrounding area.

Southampton is a water city with a long edge of parks and the dogs we visit have usually walked the same routes for years: Southampton Common for the homes around Highfield, Bassett, Portswood and Banister Park, Riverside Park along the Itchen for the streets in Bitterne Park and Swaythling, Mayflower Park and the waterfront for the older retrievers and labradors of Ocean Village and Town Quay, Mayfield Park for the families in Weston and Sholing, Lordswood Park for the dogs out at Lordswood and Maybush. The Itchen Navigation towpath through Mansbridge is a favourite for the older spaniels we see. Cats are usually long-resident garden cats in a Portswood Edwardian terrace, a Shirley semi or a Bitterne cul-de-sac. By the time someone rings us, putting an elderly pet into the car along The Avenue or out across the Itchen Bridge for a clinic visit is rarely the right last thing. We cover the SO14 to SO19 postcodes across the city: Old Town, Bargate, Bevois Town, Newtown, St Marys, Portswood, Highfield, Bassett, Swaythling, Bitterne Park, Bitterne, Sholing, Weston, Woolston, Thornhill, Harefield, Townhill Park, Mansbridge, Coxford, Maybush, Lordswood, Aldermoor, Shirley, Freemantle and Millbrook. Our vets are RCVS-registered and the visit is unhurried. Sedation is used first. Cremation is arranged through a trusted Hampshire crematorium. The number on this page is our central booking line, answered by a person who will arrange a vet for your home visit in Southampton.

Common questions.

How do I know it is time?

One of the hardest questions any family faces. Our free Quality of Life Assessment walks you through the signs vets look for, mobility, appetite, comfort, interest in surroundings. You are also welcome to phone and talk it through. There is no pressure either way.

How quickly can you come?

Most visits across Southampton and the surrounding area are booked same-day, often within a couple of hours. Pre-planned visits for a specific day and time are also available. For urgent, out-of-hours situations the local number is answered from 8am to 8pm.

What happens during the visit?

Your vet arrives, introduces themselves quietly, and takes a few minutes to explain what will happen. They give your pet a gentle sedative first, so they become relaxed and sleepy, usually resting in your arms or on their bed. Only then is the final injection given, and your pet slips away peacefully. We never rush this.

Does it cost more for evenings or weekends?

Out-of-hours and same-day visits carry a small surcharge (£70 each, or £89 combined, and £100 overnight). The visit fee itself is the same regardless of day or time.

Can my children or other pets be there?

Yes, if you would like. Many families find it helpful to say goodbye together. We take your lead on who is present and make sure everyone feels comfortable, including other pets in the household.

What about cremation and aftercare?

We co-ordinate everything. You can choose individual cremation (ashes returned to you), communal cremation (no ashes returned), or home burial if that is what you prefer. No pressure, just the options explained clearly.

Do you cover Portswood?

Yes, Portswood sits within our Southampton cover area and we visit there regularly. If you are right on the edge of where the Southampton team reaches, please phone the local number first to confirm. Most postcodes around Southampton are covered without a travel surcharge, and we will be straight with you if a different local team would actually get to you faster.

Will the vet visiting Southampton have done this before?

Yes, every vet visiting Southampton is RCVS-qualified and trained for at-home euthanasia, the same gentle process every time. The same gentle process is followed on every visit: introductions and time to settle, a sedative first so your pet drifts into a deep sleep, and only then the final injection. We never rush, and we will explain each step quietly as we go.

How things end matters.

We are here whenever you are ready.

Whether you need us today or you would like to plan ahead, the Southampton team is here to listen. No pressure, just a calm conversation about what is best for your pet.
