For older dogs, dogs with mobility loss, or any dog where travel has become difficult, an at-home visit lets the goodbye happen in the place they feel safest. On their bed, by your feet, in the garden, wherever they are most settled. With a home visit, there is no rush, and you set the pace at every stage.
What the visit looks like
A calm, predictable sequence.
Most home visits run for 45 minutes to an hour. There is no rush, and you set the pace at every stage.
Arrival and a quiet introduction
The vet arrives at the agreed time with everything they need. They sit with you and your dog first, explain what is going to happen and answer any questions before anything else.
A gentle sedative
A small first injection in the scruff or shoulder. Your dog drifts into a deep, peaceful sleep over a few minutes, usually on their bed or in your arms.
The peaceful passing
Once your dog is completely relaxed and unaware, the vet gives a second injection that stops the heart calmly. There is no struggle and no distress.
Time, and then aftercare
You take as long as you need. The vet then arranges everything for the cremation, paw prints if you have asked for them, and grief-support resources for the days that follow.
The whole visit happens in the place your dog feels safest, on a favourite bed or blanket, with the people they know.
Aftercare arranged in advance
We arrange private or communal cremation with a trusted local provider before the visit, so on the day you can focus on what matters. If you have chosen private cremation, ashes are usually returned to your home within 48 hours. Keepsakes such as paw prints or fur clippings can be discussed at the time of booking if you would like them.
