Berkshire stretches a long way for a single county and the homes we visit vary as much as the landscape. A Reading terrace near the university feels very different to a converted barn outside Hungerford or a riverside house in Cookham, and our visits are shaped around the home rather than the other way around. We cover the urban centres of Reading, Slough, Bracknell, Wokingham and Newbury, and we travel out to Maidenhead, Windsor, Ascot, Sandhurst, Crowthorne and the Pang Valley villages without a postcode surcharge. Many of our appointments come from families whose dog has slowed up after years of walks along the Kennet and Avon or across the commons at Bucklebury and Greenham. For cats, the request is usually for somewhere quiet and familiar, often a favourite chair by a window. Our vets bring everything needed and we will not rush. We can take the appointment outside into a garden if the weather is mild and that feels right. Cremation is arranged through a trusted Berkshire provider, with private or communal options and ashes returned within 48 hours. Honest, transparent pricing
Fair care means fair pricing. Here is exactly what a home visit costs in Berkshire. Out-of-hours covers evenings, nights and early mornings, and any time at weekends or on bank holidays. Only one of these is ever added.
Travel is £25 for the first 15 miles, then £1.60 per mile after that. Any additional mileage is confirmed clearly before you book.
These fees are for the at-home euthanasia appointment only and do not include cremation or aftercare. We can arrange cremation and aftercare for you if you wish, and we will provide a clear quote for those services before you book, so you know the full cost before confirming the appointment.

One of the hardest questions any family faces. Our free Quality of Life Assessment walks you through the signs vets look for, mobility, appetite, comfort, interest in surroundings. You are also welcome to phone and talk it through. There is no pressure either way.
Most visits across Berkshire and the surrounding area are booked same-day, often within a couple of hours. Pre-planned visits for a specific day and time are also available. For urgent, out-of-hours situations the local number is answered from 8am to 8pm.
Your vet arrives, introduces themselves quietly, and takes a few minutes to explain what will happen. They give your pet a gentle sedative first, so they become relaxed and sleepy, usually resting in your arms or on their bed. Only then is the final injection given, and your pet slips away peacefully. We never rush this.
Out-of-hours and same-day visits carry a small surcharge (£60 each, or £89 combined). The visit fee itself is the same regardless of day or time.
Yes, if you would like. Many families find it helpful to say goodbye together. We take your lead on who is present and make sure everyone feels comfortable, including other pets in the household.
We co-ordinate everything. You can choose individual cremation (ashes returned to you), communal cremation (no ashes returned), or home burial if that is what you prefer. No pressure, just the options explained clearly.
Cremation is handled through a trusted partner working across the South East, so your pet stays in the local area. The cremation partner collects your pet directly from your home in Berkshire after the appointment, and they return the ashes, usually within 48 hours. If you would prefer communal cremation, with no ashes returned, that option is available too. Either way, the choice is yours and we will explain everything before the visit.
Yes, Reading sits within our Berkshire cover area and we visit there regularly. If you are right on the edge of where the Berkshire team reaches, please phone the local number first to confirm. Most postcodes around Berkshire are covered without a travel surcharge, and we will be straight with you if a different local team would actually get to you faster.
