Covering WN1, WN2, WN3, WN7& surrounding postcodes

Local to you, across Wigan, Leigh & Atherton and the surrounding area.

Wigan, Leigh and Atherton sit on the western edge of Greater Manchester with a band of old coalfield countryside between them. The dogs we visit here have often walked Haigh Woodland Park, Pennington Flash, Three Sisters or the Leeds and Liverpool towpath for years; the cats tend to be long-resident in one of the rows of terraces around the centre of each town. We cover Wigan itself across WN1 to WN6, including Standish, Pemberton, Shevington, Whelley, Ince, Worsley Mesnes, Marsh Green and Beech Hill, and we travel out to Leigh, Atherton, Tyldesley, Hindley, Hindley Green, Aspull, Haigh, Abram and Bryn. We will also reach Lowton, Golborne and Astley if you are toward the east of the area. Our vets are RCVS-registered. Sedation is used first so your pet is asleep before anything else happens, and the visit is calm and unhurried, typically around an hour at the home. The appointment can take place in the lounge, the kitchen, a porch or a back garden, wherever your pet is most settled. Cremation is arranged through a trusted Greater Manchester crematorium, with private and communal options, and ashes returned within 48 hours. The number on this page is the local line for the Wigan and Leigh area.

Common questions.

How do I know it is time?

One of the hardest questions any family faces. Our free Quality of Life Assessment walks you through the signs vets look for, mobility, appetite, comfort, interest in surroundings. You are also welcome to phone and talk it through. There is no pressure either way.

How quickly can you come?

Most visits across Wigan, Leigh & Atherton and the surrounding area are booked same-day, often within a couple of hours. Pre-planned visits for a specific day and time are also available. For urgent, out-of-hours situations the local number is answered from 8am to 8pm.

What happens during the visit?

Your vet arrives, introduces themselves quietly, and takes a few minutes to explain what will happen. They give your pet a gentle sedative first, so they become relaxed and sleepy, usually resting in your arms or on their bed. Only then is the final injection given, and your pet slips away peacefully. We never rush this.

Does it cost more for evenings or weekends?

Out-of-hours and same-day visits carry a small surcharge (£70 each, or £89 combined, and £100 overnight). The visit fee itself is the same regardless of day or time.

Can my children or other pets be there?

Yes, if you would like. Many families find it helpful to say goodbye together. We take your lead on who is present and make sure everyone feels comfortable, including other pets in the household.

What about cremation and aftercare?

We co-ordinate everything. You can choose individual cremation (ashes returned to you), communal cremation (no ashes returned), or home burial if that is what you prefer. No pressure, just the options explained clearly.

Where will my pet be cremated from Wigan, Leigh & Atherton?

Cremation is arranged through a trusted North West partner, so your pet stays in the local area. The cremation partner collects your pet directly from your home in Wigan, Leigh & Atherton after the appointment, and they return the ashes, usually within 48 hours. If you would prefer communal cremation, with no ashes returned, that option is available too. Either way, the choice is yours and we will explain everything before the visit.

Will the vet visiting Wigan, Leigh & Atherton have done this before?

Yes, every vet visiting Wigan, Leigh & Atherton is RCVS-qualified and trained for at-home euthanasia, the same gentle process every time. The same gentle process is followed on every visit: introductions and time to settle, a sedative first so your pet drifts into a deep sleep, and only then the final injection. We never rush, and we will explain each step quietly as we go.

How things end matters.

We are here whenever you are ready.

Whether you need us today or you would like to plan ahead, the Wigan, Leigh & Atherton team is here to listen. No pressure, just a calm conversation about what is best for your pet.
