New Mills sits in a valley where the Sett and the Goyt meet, with the Torrs gorge running through the middle of the town and the moors rising in every direction. The High Peak villages around it, Hayfield, Birch Vale, Chinley, Whaley Bridge, Furness Vale, are tightly held communities with a lot of older dogs that have spent years walking the Sett Valley Trail, up Kinder Scout, or along the Goyt towpath toward Buxworth. When families ring, the clinic is rarely where they want the last appointment to happen. We cover New Mills itself, Hayfield, Birch Vale, Chinley, Whaley Bridge, Furness Vale, Buxworth, Disley and Hague Bar, and we travel out to Tideswell, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Charlesworth, Tintwistle and Glossop if you are on that side of the Snake. Our vets are RCVS-registered. Sedation is the first step so your pet is asleep before anything else, and the appointment is unhurried, typically around an hour. We can hold the visit in a stone-flagged kitchen, a porch, a back garden or wherever your pet is most settled. Cremation is arranged through a trusted Peak District crematorium, private or communal, with ashes returned. Costs are explained clearly on the booking call and remain unchanged on the day.

Fair care means fair pricing. Here is exactly what a home visit costs in New Mills & the High Peak. Out-of-hours covers evenings, nights and early mornings, and any time at weekends or on bank holidays. Only one of these is ever added.
Travel is £25 for the first 15 miles, then £1.60 per mile after that. Any additional mileage is confirmed clearly before you book.
These fees are for the at-home euthanasia appointment only and do not include cremation or aftercare. We can arrange cremation and aftercare for you if you wish, and we will provide a clear quote for those services before you book, so you know the full cost before confirming the appointment.

One of the hardest questions any family faces. Our free Quality of Life Assessment walks you through the signs vets look for, mobility, appetite, comfort, interest in surroundings. You are also welcome to phone and talk it through. There is no pressure either way.
Most visits across New Mills & the High Peak and the surrounding area are booked same-day, often within a couple of hours. Pre-planned visits for a specific day and time are also available. For urgent, out-of-hours situations the local number is answered from 8am to 8pm.
Your vet arrives, introduces themselves quietly, and takes a few minutes to explain what will happen. They give your pet a gentle sedative first, so they become relaxed and sleepy, usually resting in your arms or on their bed. Only then is the final injection given, and your pet slips away peacefully. We never rush this.
Out-of-hours and same-day visits carry a small surcharge (£60 each, or £89 combined). The visit fee itself is the same regardless of day or time.
Yes, if you would like. Many families find it helpful to say goodbye together. We take your lead on who is present and make sure everyone feels comfortable, including other pets in the household.
We co-ordinate everything. You can choose individual cremation (ashes returned to you), communal cremation (no ashes returned), or home burial if that is what you prefer. No pressure, just the options explained clearly.
Cremation is arranged through a trusted Midlands partner, so your pet stays in the local area. The cremation partner collects your pet directly from your home in New Mills & the High Peak after the appointment, and they return the ashes, usually within 48 hours. If you would prefer communal cremation, with no ashes returned, that option is available too. Either way, the choice is yours and we will explain everything before the visit.
We work to whatever timescale suits the family rather than to a fixed arrival window. When you phone us, we usually have a vet confirmed for you within around twenty minutes, and then the visit is booked for the time you have asked for, whether that is later the same day, this evening, or a quieter morning slot. If you would like someone as soon as possible, say so on the call and we will tell you the earliest we can be there.
