Not sure if we cover your village? Phone the local number and we will let you know.

Knutsford is a small Cheshire town with cobbled side streets, the long sweep of Tatton Park on its doorstep and a settled population of older dogs that have walked the deer park for years. The cats we visit here are often Tatton-side garden cats, or long-resident sitting-room cats in the terraces around King Street and Tatton Street. When the moment comes, families almost always tell us the same thing: please, at home. We cover Knutsford itself and travel out to Mobberley, Plumley, Lower Peover, Allostock, Pickmere, Tabley and Over Tabley, and across to Mere, High Legh, Lower Stretton and Antrobus. We can also reach Goostrey and the villages off the A50 toward Holmes Chapel. The vets are RCVS-registered. Sedation comes first so your pet is asleep before the second injection, and the visit is unhurried, usually around an hour from arrival to leaving. We can run the appointment in a kitchen, a snug, the back garden or wherever the dog or cat is most settled. Cremation is arranged through a local Cheshire crematorium, with private or communal options. Ashes are returned if requested, normally within 48 hours. The price is explained on the booking call and nothing is added on the day. The Knutsford number on this page is the local line and is answered by a person who books our local vets.

We have had to use this service twice in the last four months as we have been cat parents for the past twenty years. When the time came and it was obvious that the first one had no quality of life we couldn't bear the thought of taking her in the car to the vet - and saying…

Common questions.

How do I know it is time?

One of the hardest questions any family faces. Our free Quality of Life Assessment walks you through the signs vets look for, mobility, appetite, comfort, interest in surroundings. You are also welcome to phone and talk it through. There is no pressure either way.

How quickly can you come?

Most visits across Knutsford and the surrounding area are booked same-day, often within a couple of hours. Pre-planned visits for a specific day and time are also available. For urgent, out-of-hours situations the local number is answered from 8am to 8pm.

What happens during the visit?

Your vet arrives, introduces themselves quietly, and takes a few minutes to explain what will happen. They give your pet a gentle sedative first, so they become relaxed and sleepy, usually resting in your arms or on their bed. Only then is the final injection given, and your pet slips away peacefully. We never rush this.

Does it cost more for evenings or weekends?

Out-of-hours and same-day visits carry a small surcharge (£60 each, or £89 combined). The visit fee itself is the same regardless of day or time.

Can my children or other pets be there?

Yes, if you would like. Many families find it helpful to say goodbye together. We take your lead on who is present and make sure everyone feels comfortable, including other pets in the household.

What about cremation and aftercare?

We co-ordinate everything. You can choose individual cremation (ashes returned to you), communal cremation (no ashes returned), or home burial if that is what you prefer. No pressure, just the options explained clearly.

Which areas around Knutsford are covered for same-day visits?

Across the WA16 postcodes we can usually reach a home in Knutsford the same day, including Mobberley, Plumley, Lower Peover and Pickmere. Rural fringes and outlying areas may be next-morning earliest if the call comes in late in the day, but we will tell you straight away when we phone back. Lines are open from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week.

Will the vet visiting Knutsford have done this before?

Yes, every vet visiting Knutsford is RCVS-qualified and trained for at-home euthanasia, the same gentle process every time. The same gentle process is followed on every visit: introductions and time to settle, a sedative first so your pet drifts into a deep sleep, and only then the final injection. We never rush, and we will explain each step quietly as we go.

How things end matters.

We are here whenever you are ready.

Whether you need us today or you would like to plan ahead, the Knutsford team is here to listen. No pressure, just a calm conversation about what is best for your pet.
