Not sure if we cover your village? Phone the local number and we will let you know.

Cambridge is a small city with a long memory, and the homes we visit here are often Edwardian terraces off Mill Road, Victorian villas in Newnham or Romsey, college-side rentals in Chesterton, or quieter family houses in Cherry Hinton and Trumpington. The dogs we are asked to see have often walked the Backs, Coe Fen, Jesus Green, Stourbridge Common or the towpath out toward Fen Ditton for years. The cats here are usually long-settled in a single sitting room or sash-window sill, sometimes the same one since they were kittens. By the time families ring, the idea of a car journey across town to a clinic is the last thing most families want to put them through. We cover Cambridge itself across CB1 to CB5, including Newnham, Trumpington, Cherry Hinton, Romsey, Mill Road, Chesterton, Arbury, King's Hedges and Coleridge, and we travel out to the villages on the immediate edge of the city, including Grantchester, Histon, Impington, Milton, Fulbourn, Teversham and the Shelfords. Our vets are RCVS-registered. Sedation is the first step so your pet is asleep before anything else, and the appointment is unhurried, typically around an hour at the home. The number on this page is the Cambridgeshire line, answered by a person who books our local vets for Cambridge home visits.

Common questions.

How do I know it is time?

One of the hardest questions any family faces. Our free Quality of Life Assessment walks you through the signs vets look for, mobility, appetite, comfort, interest in surroundings. You are also welcome to phone and talk it through. There is no pressure either way.

How quickly can you come?

Most visits across Cambridge and the surrounding area are booked same-day, often within a couple of hours. Pre-planned visits for a specific day and time are also available. For urgent, out-of-hours situations the local number is answered from 8am to 8pm.

What happens during the visit?

Your vet arrives, introduces themselves quietly, and takes a few minutes to explain what will happen. They give your pet a gentle sedative first, so they become relaxed and sleepy, usually resting in your arms or on their bed. Only then is the final injection given, and your pet slips away peacefully. We never rush this.

Does it cost more for evenings or weekends?

Out-of-hours and same-day visits carry a small surcharge (£70 each, or £89 combined, and £100 overnight). The visit fee itself is the same regardless of day or time.

Can my children or other pets be there?

Yes, if you would like. Many families find it helpful to say goodbye together. We take your lead on who is present and make sure everyone feels comfortable, including other pets in the household.

What about cremation and aftercare?

We co-ordinate everything. You can choose individual cremation (ashes returned to you), communal cremation (no ashes returned), or home burial if that is what you prefer. No pressure, just the options explained clearly.

Which areas around Cambridge are covered for same-day visits?

Across the CB1, CB2, CB3 postcodes we can usually reach a home in Cambridge the same day, including Newnham, Trumpington, Cherry Hinton and Romsey. Rural fringes and outlying areas may be next-morning earliest if the call comes in late in the day, but we will tell you straight away when we phone back. Lines are open from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week.

Will the vet visiting Cambridge have done this before?

Yes, every vet visiting Cambridge is RCVS-qualified and trained for at-home euthanasia, the same gentle process every time. The same gentle process is followed on every visit: introductions and time to settle, a sedative first so your pet drifts into a deep sleep, and only then the final injection. We never rush, and we will explain each step quietly as we go.

How things end matters.

We are here whenever you are ready.

Whether you need us today or you would like to plan ahead, the Cambridge team is here to listen. No pressure, just a calm conversation about what is best for your pet.
