Local to you, across Blackburn & Darwen and the surrounding area.

Blackburn and Darwen are two towns in one borough, separated by moorland and stitched together by the A666 and decades of shared family roots. The dogs and cats we visit here have often grown up walking up to Darwen Tower, around Sunnyhurst Wood or across Witton Country Park. By the time someone calls us, a clinic trip up the hill is often the last thing they need. We cover central Blackburn, Mill Hill, Audley, Little Harwood, Roe Lee and Lammack, and across into Darwen, Tockholes, Hoddlesden and Belmont. We are also happy to visit families in the smaller villages off the A6177 ring road. Our vets are RCVS-qualified and bring sedation, fluids and time. Children and other pets in the home are welcome to be present if that is what feels right; we will guide everyone through what to expect before anything happens. After the appointment we arrange cremation locally, private or communal, with a clear written explanation of what each option involves and what it costs. There are no surprise charges and the price we agree on the call is the price you pay. Many of our Blackburn families come to us through word of mouth from neighbours and friends, and we work hard to be the kind of service people would actually recommend. Please call and we will talk you through everything at your own pace.

“It was never going to be an easy decision, I would highly recommend! Professional from beginning to end, the hardest decision of my life was made easier by pet euthanasia, Jenny from initial contact, Dr Sally and Geoff from pet crematorium. If I could give 10 stars I would.…”

Common questions.

How do I know it is time?

One of the hardest questions any family faces. Our free Quality of Life Assessment walks you through the signs vets look for, mobility, appetite, comfort, interest in surroundings. You are also welcome to phone and talk it through. There is no pressure either way.

How quickly can you come?

Most visits across Blackburn & Darwen and the surrounding area are booked same-day, often within a couple of hours. Pre-planned visits for a specific day and time are also available. For urgent, out-of-hours situations the local number is answered from 8am to 8pm.

What happens during the visit?

Your vet arrives, introduces themselves quietly, and takes a few minutes to explain what will happen. They give your pet a gentle sedative first, so they become relaxed and sleepy, usually resting in your arms or on their bed. Only then is the final injection given, and your pet slips away peacefully. We never rush this.

Does it cost more for evenings or weekends?

Out-of-hours and same-day visits carry a small surcharge (£70 each, or £89 combined, and £100 overnight). The visit fee itself is the same regardless of day or time.

Can my children or other pets be there?

Yes, if you would like. Many families find it helpful to say goodbye together. We take your lead on who is present and make sure everyone feels comfortable, including other pets in the household.

What about cremation and aftercare?

We co-ordinate everything. You can choose individual cremation (ashes returned to you), communal cremation (no ashes returned), or home burial if that is what you prefer. No pressure, just the options explained clearly.

Where will my pet be cremated from Blackburn & Darwen?

Cremation is arranged through a trusted North West partner, so your pet stays in the local area. The cremation partner collects your pet directly from your home in Blackburn & Darwen after the appointment, and they return the ashes, usually within 48 hours. If you would prefer communal cremation, with no ashes returned, that option is available too. Either way, the choice is yours and we will explain everything before the visit.

Will the vet visiting Blackburn & Darwen have done this before?

Yes, every vet visiting Blackburn & Darwen is RCVS-qualified and trained for at-home euthanasia, the same gentle process every time. The same gentle process is followed on every visit: introductions and time to settle, a sedative first so your pet drifts into a deep sleep, and only then the final injection. We never rush, and we will explain each step quietly as we go.

How things end matters.

We are here whenever you are ready.

Whether you need us today or you would like to plan ahead, the Blackburn & Darwen team is here to listen. No pressure, just a calm conversation about what is best for your pet.
