Time, space and calm, not pressure
We allow as long as your family needs. This is never rushed.
Local to you, across York and the surrounding area.
York is a small city wrapped in its medieval Walls and the dogs we visit have usually walked the same routes for years: the Ouse riverside path from Lendal Bridge out to Bishopthorpe for the homes in South Bank, Clementhorpe and Bishopthorpe, Rowntree Park for the streets in South Bank and the city centre, Hob Moor for the families in Holgate and Acomb, the Foss Walk and Hull Road Park for the older retrievers and labradors of Heworth and Tang Hall, the moor at Heworth Holme and Clifton Ings for the spaniels and labradors of Clifton, Rawcliffe and Huntington. The Solar System Walk along the cycle path to Selby is a favourite with older dogs we see. Cats are usually long-resident garden cats in a Bishophill terrace, a Fulford semi or a Heworth bay-window front room. By the time someone rings us, putting an elderly pet into the car along the A19 or out onto the A64 for a clinic visit is rarely the right last thing. We cover the YO postcodes across the city: City Centre, Bishophill, Clementhorpe, South Bank, Holgate, Acomb, Dringhouses, Woodthorpe, Foxwood, Bishopthorpe, Fulford, Heslington, Tang Hall, Heworth, Heworth Without, Burnholme, Osbaldwick, Huntington, New Earswick, Clifton, Rawcliffe and Skelton. Our vets are RCVS-registered and the visit is unhurried. Sedation is used first. Cremation is arranged through a trusted Yorkshire crematorium. The number on this page is our central booking line, answered by a person who will arrange a vet for your home visit in York.

Common questions.
How do I know it is time?+
One of the hardest questions any family faces. Our free Quality of Life Assessment walks you through the signs vets look for, mobility, appetite, comfort, interest in surroundings. You are also welcome to phone and talk it through. There is no pressure either way.
How quickly can you come?+
Most visits across York and the surrounding area are booked same-day, often within a couple of hours. Pre-planned visits for a specific day and time are also available. For urgent, out-of-hours situations the local number is answered from 8am to 8pm.
What happens during the visit?+
Your vet arrives, introduces themselves quietly, and takes a few minutes to explain what will happen. They give your pet a gentle sedative first, so they become relaxed and sleepy, usually resting in your arms or on their bed. Only then is the final injection given, and your pet slips away peacefully. We never rush this.
Does it cost more for evenings or weekends?+
Out-of-hours and same-day visits carry a small surcharge (£70 each, or £89 combined, and £100 overnight). The visit fee itself is the same regardless of day or time.
Can my children or other pets be there?+
Yes, if you would like. Many families find it helpful to say goodbye together. We take your lead on who is present and make sure everyone feels comfortable, including other pets in the household.
What about cremation and aftercare?+
We co-ordinate everything. You can choose individual cremation (ashes returned to you), communal cremation (no ashes returned), or home burial if that is what you prefer. No pressure, just the options explained clearly.
Where will my pet be cremated from York?+
Cremation is handled through a trusted partner working across Yorkshire, so your pet stays in the local area. The cremation partner collects your pet directly from your home in York after the appointment, and they return the ashes, usually within 48 hours. If you would prefer communal cremation, with no ashes returned, that option is available too. Either way, the choice is yours and we will explain everything before the visit.
Will the vet visiting York have done this before?+
Yes, every vet visiting York is RCVS-qualified and trained for at-home euthanasia, the same gentle process every time. The same gentle process is followed on every visit: introductions and time to settle, a sedative first so your pet drifts into a deep sleep, and only then the final injection. We never rush, and we will explain each step quietly as we go.
Whether you need us today or you would like to plan ahead, the York team is here to listen. No pressure, just a calm conversation about what is best for your pet.
