Sunderland sits where the Wear meets the sea and the dogs we visit have usually walked the same routes for years: Roker Park and the seafront from Roker Pier up to Seaburn for the homes in Roker, Fulwell and Seaburn, Mowbray Park for the city-centre flats and the streets around Ashbrooke and Park Lane, Barnes Park for the families in Barnes and High Barnes, Backhouse Park for the older retrievers and labradors of Ashbrooke and East Herrington, Silksworth Sports Complex for the dogs at Silksworth and Tunstall, Hetton Lyons for the spaniels of Hetton and Houghton-le-Spring. Herrington Country Park is a favourite walk for the older dogs we see. Cats are usually long-resident garden cats in an Ashbrooke Victorian terrace, a Fulwell semi or a Roker flat with the back door always on the latch. By the time we are called, putting an elderly pet into the car along the A19 or up to a Tyne-side clinic is rarely the right last thing. We cover the SR postcodes across the city: City Centre, Mowbray Park, Hendon, Pallion, Millfield, Deptford, Roker, Fulwell, Seaburn, Southwick, Castletown, Ashbrooke, Park Lane, Barnes, High Barnes, Thorney Close, Plains Farm, Springwell, Farringdon, East Herrington, Silksworth, Doxford Park, Tunstall and Ryhope. Our vets are RCVS-registered and the visit is unhurried. Sedation is used first. Cremation is arranged through a trusted North East crematorium. The number on this page is our central booking line, answered by a person who will arrange a vet for your home visit in Sunderland.

“We had to let our old dog go. And the vet from yours was lovely with him (and us) she explained everything and our gentle old boy went over the rainbow bridge peacefully. I would have no hesitation in recommending their services. Thank you Dr Alex for making Paco's journey…”

“From the very first phone call we were dealt with in such an empathetic, caring and kind way. It’s always so hard to say goodbye to a much loved pet, but to be able to do it in the comfort of your own home removes so much stress at an already devastating time. Thank you again x”

Common questions.

How do I know it is time?

One of the hardest questions any family faces. Our free Quality of Life Assessment walks you through the signs vets look for, mobility, appetite, comfort, interest in surroundings. You are also welcome to phone and talk it through. There is no pressure either way.

How quickly can you come?

Most visits across Sunderland and the surrounding area are booked same-day, often within a couple of hours. Pre-planned visits for a specific day and time are also available. For urgent, out-of-hours situations the local number is answered from 8am to 8pm.

What happens during the visit?

Your vet arrives, introduces themselves quietly, and takes a few minutes to explain what will happen. They give your pet a gentle sedative first, so they become relaxed and sleepy, usually resting in your arms or on their bed. Only then is the final injection given, and your pet slips away peacefully. We never rush this.

Does it cost more for evenings or weekends?

Out-of-hours and same-day visits carry a small surcharge (£70 each, or £89 combined, and £100 overnight). The visit fee itself is the same regardless of day or time.

Can my children or other pets be there?

Yes, if you would like. Many families find it helpful to say goodbye together. We take your lead on who is present and make sure everyone feels comfortable, including other pets in the household.

What about cremation and aftercare?

We co-ordinate everything. You can choose individual cremation (ashes returned to you), communal cremation (no ashes returned), or home burial if that is what you prefer. No pressure, just the options explained clearly.

Where will my pet be cremated from Sunderland?

Cremation is handled through a trusted partner working across the North East, so your pet stays in the local area. The cremation partner collects your pet directly from your home in Sunderland after the appointment, and they return the ashes, usually within 48 hours. If you would prefer communal cremation, with no ashes returned, that option is available too. Either way, the choice is yours and we will explain everything before the visit.

How long does a vet from your team take to get to Sunderland?

We work to whatever timescale suits the family rather than to a fixed arrival window. When you phone us, we usually have a vet confirmed for you within around twenty minutes, and then the visit is booked for the time you have asked for, whether that is later the same day, this evening, or a quieter morning slot. If you would like someone as soon as possible, say so on the call and we will tell you the earliest we can be there.

How things end matters.

We are here whenever you are ready.

Whether you need us today or you would like to plan ahead, the Sunderland team is here to listen. No pressure, just a calm conversation about what is best for your pet.
