Not sure if we cover your village? Phone the local number and we will let you know.

Sheffield runs straight into the Peak District, and many of the dogs we visit have walked the same hills and woods for years, whether that is the morning loop of Endcliffe Park or the slopes above Forge Dam. By the time someone rings us about the final appointment, a car ride down Ecclesall Road to a clinic is rarely the right last thing.

Our vets cover the S postcodes across the city and reach Crookes, Nether Edge, Broomhill and Hillsborough in same-day cover, with Stocksbridge and Chapeltown to the north and Beighton and Mosborough to the south-east usually reachable too. Villages towards Bradfield are sometimes next-morning earliest, and the handler will say so on the phone. Sedation is given first, on a familiar blanket, and your pet is in a deep sleep before the final injection. The appointment is unhurried, usually around an hour. Cremation is arranged through a trusted Yorkshire partner who collect directly from the home after the visit; private cremation returns the ashes within 48 hours. The number on this page is a direct local Sheffield line.

Common questions.

How do I know it is time?

One of the hardest questions any family faces. Our free Quality of Life Assessment walks you through the signs vets look for, mobility, appetite, comfort, interest in surroundings. You are also welcome to phone and talk it through. There is no pressure either way.

How quickly can you come?

Most visits across Sheffield and the surrounding area are booked same-day, often within a couple of hours. Pre-planned visits for a specific day and time are also available. For urgent, out-of-hours situations the local number is answered from 8am to 8pm.

What happens during the visit?

Your vet arrives, introduces themselves quietly, and takes a few minutes to explain what will happen. They give your pet a gentle sedative first, so they become relaxed and sleepy, usually resting in your arms or on their bed. Only then is the final injection given, and your pet slips away peacefully. We never rush this.

Does it cost more for evenings or weekends?

Out-of-hours and same-day visits carry a small surcharge (£70 each, or £89 combined, and £100 overnight). The visit fee itself is the same regardless of day or time.

Can my children or other pets be there?

Yes, if you would like. Many families find it helpful to say goodbye together. We take your lead on who is present and make sure everyone feels comfortable, including other pets in the household.

What about cremation and aftercare?

We co-ordinate everything. You can choose individual cremation (ashes returned to you), communal cremation (no ashes returned), or home burial if that is what you prefer. No pressure, just the options explained clearly.

How long does a vet from your team take to get to Sheffield?

We work to whatever timescale suits the family rather than to a fixed arrival window. When you phone us, we usually have a vet confirmed for you within around twenty minutes, and then the visit is booked for the time you have asked for, whether that is later the same day, this evening, or a quieter morning slot. If you would like someone as soon as possible, say so on the call and we will tell you the earliest we can be there.

Will the vet visiting Sheffield have done this before?

Yes, every vet visiting Sheffield is RCVS-qualified and trained for at-home euthanasia, the same gentle process every time. The same gentle process is followed on every visit: introductions and time to settle, a sedative first so your pet drifts into a deep sleep, and only then the final injection. We never rush, and we will explain each step quietly as we go.

How things end matters.

We are here whenever you are ready.

Whether you need us today or you would like to plan ahead, the Sheffield team is here to listen. No pressure, just a calm conversation about what is best for your pet.
