Covering RG1, RG2, RG4, RG5, RG6, RG30, RG31& surrounding postcodes

Local to you, across Reading and the surrounding area.

Reading is a town that runs along the Thames where the Kennet meets it, and the families we visit here have homes that span every era of its growth: Victorian terraces in Earley and Newtown, Edwardian villas in Caversham, semis up the hill in Tilehurst, post-war estates in Whitley and Southcote, and newer family houses in Woodley and Lower Earley. The dogs we are asked to see have often walked Forbury Gardens, the Thames Path up to Mapledurham, Prospect Park, McIlroy Park or the towpath along the Kennet and Avon for years. The cats here are usually long-resident garden cats in a Caversham cul-de-sac or a single-room cat in a terrace off the Oxford Road. By the time families ring, putting your pet in the car for a clinic visit along the IDR or up the A4 is rarely what they want for the last appointment. We cover Reading itself across the RG postcodes, including Caversham, Caversham Heights, Emmer Green, Tilehurst, Calcot, Southcote, Whitley, Coley, Newtown, Earley, Lower Earley and Woodley, and we travel out to Sonning, Charvil, Twyford, Pangbourne and Theale. Our vets are RCVS-registered. Sedation is used first so your pet is asleep before anything else, and the visit is unhurried. Cremation is arranged through a trusted Berkshire crematorium, with private or communal options. The number on this page is the Berkshire line, answered by a person who books our local vets for Reading home visits.

How it works.

Three steps. We handle everything around the clinical care so your family can focus on being there.

1

Call or message

Speak to a calm, experienced team member on the local number, or message on WhatsApp. We help you plan timing and answer any questions before anything is booked.

2

A vet visits your home

An RCVS-qualified vet arrives at the agreed time, explains gently what will happen, gives a sedative first, and takes as long as your family needs.

3

We handle the aftercare

If you have chosen cremation, we co-ordinate everything with a trusted partner. Ashes returned, or communal cremation if you prefer.

Common questions.

How do I know it is time?

One of the hardest questions any family faces. Our free Quality of Life Assessment walks you through the signs vets look for, mobility, appetite, comfort, interest in surroundings. You are also welcome to phone and talk it through. There is no pressure either way.

How quickly can you come?

Most visits across Reading and the surrounding area are booked same-day, often within a couple of hours. Pre-planned visits for a specific day and time are also available. For urgent, out-of-hours situations the local number is answered from 8am to 8pm.

What happens during the visit?

Your vet arrives, introduces themselves quietly, and takes a few minutes to explain what will happen. They give your pet a gentle sedative first, so they become relaxed and sleepy, usually resting in your arms or on their bed. Only then is the final injection given, and your pet slips away peacefully. We never rush this.

Does it cost more for evenings or weekends?

Out-of-hours and same-day visits carry a small surcharge (£70 each, or £89 combined, and £100 overnight). The visit fee itself is the same regardless of day or time.

Can my children or other pets be there?

Yes, if you would like. Many families find it helpful to say goodbye together. We take your lead on who is present and make sure everyone feels comfortable, including other pets in the household.

What about cremation and aftercare?

We co-ordinate everything. You can choose individual cremation (ashes returned to you), communal cremation (no ashes returned), or home burial if that is what you prefer. No pressure, just the options explained clearly.

Do you cover Caversham?

Yes, Caversham sits within our Reading cover area and we visit there regularly. If you are right on the edge of where the Reading team reaches, please phone the local number first to confirm. Most postcodes around Reading are covered without a travel surcharge, and we will be straight with you if a different local team would actually get to you faster.

Will the vet visiting Reading have done this before?

Yes, every vet visiting Reading is RCVS-qualified and trained for at-home euthanasia, the same gentle process every time. The same gentle process is followed on every visit: introductions and time to settle, a sedative first so your pet drifts into a deep sleep, and only then the final injection. We never rush, and we will explain each step quietly as we go.

How things end matters.

We are here whenever you are ready.

Whether you need us today or you would like to plan ahead, the Reading team is here to listen. No pressure, just a calm conversation about what is best for your pet.
